DE TJOLOMADOE

January 19, 2019

De Tjolomadoe is just a few minutes away from our home and there were two buddies who went to our house to fetch us using motorcycle. Since there are 4 of us, what we did was to let the first two persons to go to De Tjolomadoe first and wait for our buddies to come back and fetch us.

The two boys with us are our buddies from UTP, Rian and Fian.

"De Tjolomadoe was initially built in 1861 as a sugar production plant, and was owned by the royal Mangkunegara family in Solo. After its closure in the 1990s, this place was abandoned, and has recently only got revamped and restored to serve as a tourist destination.

The main buildings of the factory now serves as a museum dedicated for the general sugar production, and for the history of the building itself. As of January 2018, the entrance fee is IDR 25,000 per person. The museum is worth a visit, where the highlight of the museum is the huge sugar production machineries. The museum is great for photo taking, where you can take pictures with the huge machineries as a background.

The outdoor area of the site is full of food trucks and food stalls that sells inexpensive snacks & meals ( price range from IDR 5.000 to approximately IDR 40.000 ), and on special occasions, there will be live music playing in the open air stage." -Daniel Adhinugraha
