teaching system

The teachers go to school at 6:25AM and go home at 3:30PM. They have an assigned subject to be taught in different classes and there are 2 assigned teachers per class. Their method of teaching vary from one another but they usually use the learning by doing method and the transformative learning to ensure that the students are really able to grasp their new lesson.

The teachers must submit lesson plan every week and it must be approved by the school principal before they could teach the subject/s assigned to them. They also work on administrative tasks and supervise the students during class hours and outside class hours. Also, they conduct affective guidance on students outside of class hours.

The school also practices the following:

  1. Full Day School, which God willing, supports good habits in an educated atmosphere

  2. Transformative learning, how can learning be done in real life, not only theory but also practice (conditions of reality in the field). So at Muhammadiyah PK Elementary School there is a field trip program for students

  3. Learning model with learning by doing so that it creates deep knowledge and lerning by playing according to the play time of the child

  4. Parent's Day , Parenting program and home visit , in an effort to establish good relations with parents of students

  5. Islamic habituation, in which students behave according to the teachings of Islam such as greeting when meeting friends, teachers, and employees then continuing to shake hands, eat and drink with their right hand and while sitting, keeping clean (taking out trash seen and put into place rubbish etc. Including the habituation of duha and tadarus prayers which are carried out in the morning before the lesson begins. Also praying when starting and ending the lesson

  6. The independence of students, one of which is a lunch activity where students take eating utensils and take rice until they wash the utensils until they are placed in their original place, done independently but still under the supervision of the teacher

materials and other learning resources

The school's materials and learning resources are really exemplary. They provide projector and speakers to be used by teachers to improve their discussion in the classroom. The textbooks that the students use are in Bahasa Indonesia. Inside the classroom i've observed in, there is a mini library where students could sit and read a book. It is a very nice place in the classroom because it encourages the students to read books. They no longer need to go to the library to read because they already have it in their classroom. Aside from these, there are also other facilities in the school.

CURRICULUM

2013 Curriculum (K-13) is the applicable curriculum in the Indonesian Education System. This curriculum is a curriculum that is still applied by the government to replace Curriculum-2006 (which is often referred to as the Education Unit Level Curriculum) which has been valid for approximately 6 years. 2013 curriculum entered the trial period in 2013 by making several schools become pilot schools.

2013 curriculum has four aspects of assessment, namely aspects of knowledge, skills, attitude, and behavior. In the 2013 curriculum, especially in the learning material there are streamlined material and added material. Streamlined material can be seen in Indonesian, IPS, PPKn, etc., while the material added is Mathematics. The subject matter (especially Mathematics and Natural Sciences) is adapted to international standard learning materials (such as PISA and TIMSS) so that the government hopes to balance education in the country with education abroad.

PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING IN THE 2013 CURRICULUM:

  1. students are facilitated to find out;

  2. learners learn from various learning sources;

  3. the learning process uses a scientific approach;

  4. competency based learning;

  5. integrated learning;

  6. learning that emphasizes divergent answers that have multi-dimensional truths;

  7. applicative skills based learning;

  8. increasing balance, sustainability, and linkage between hard-skills and soft-skills;

  9. learning that prioritizes civilization and empowerment of students as lifelong learners;

  10. learning that applies values by giving exemplary (ing ngarso sung tulodo), build willpower (ing madyo mangun karso), and develop creativity of students in the learning process (tut wuri handayani);

  11. learning that takes place at home, at school, and in the community;

  12. utilization of information and communication technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of learning;

  13. recognition of individual differences and cultural background of students; and

  14. fun and challenging learning atmosphere.

teaching plan

The teachers are said to be required to submit lesson plans every week and must be approved by the school principal. Their lesson plans are written in Bahasa Indonesia unlike in the Philippines, wherein we write it in English unless the subject is Filipino. It is to ensure that the teachers don't just go to class unprepared because just like in the Philippines, teachers who are new to the field are required to submit daily lesson plans for them to practice and improve their methods of teaching. Lesson plan is a very helpful tool because it gives teachers a guide on what to do and when to properly do it.

Aside from the lesson plans, the teachers are also asked to arrange lesson syllabus per semester. This is to ensure that the lessons for the semester are already prepared for the students. Through it, you will be able to see the overview of the lessons for a certain semester.

The school profile shows what the school can offer to the students. The campus is really filled with great facilities, qualified teachers and competent students. It may not be as big as other campuses but it still caters to the needs of the students. They still have a lot of time to improve on their other facilities and to add more to what they can offer so it could help maximize the students' learning but after being
