GRAHA BATIK CEMPAKA

January 16, 2019

Me and my Filipino friends were picked up by Pak Narto and Pak and went to UTP's Campus 2 to meet with the students from the Education department. We waited for awhile but after a few minutes, some staff told us that the students were already at Graha Batik Cempaka so we immediately went there. When we arrived at the venue, there were several students waiting for us.

They are the students from UTP who joined us in making Batik fans.

He is the one who oriented all of us. He was telling us that nowadays, only the old people are wearing Batik while most of the younger generation no longer appreciate the beauty of Batik. He also explained the process of making Batik designs and told us that we will be making our own fan with Batik design. We were all very excited because we got a chance to experience making it on our own.

After

Before

This is the before and after picture of the first fan that I made. It was a little challenging but I enjoyed every step of it.

Trace the drawing on the fan with wax.   Be extra careful because the wax is very hot.

After tracing, color the white part or the blank areas of the fan with your preferred color and let it dry .

This is  the final output! My first Batik fan and what makes it more   special is that I was able to make it on my own.

My friends asked if we could make another fan and they told us that we can so we made another one. This is our second output. It was easier to do it the second time around because we already got some strategies as to how we could have a cleaner and better one.

I am so glad to have the opportunity to make not only one but two fans with Batik designs made by my own hands! The first fan i made was for myself while the second one was for my mother. It was a very memorable activity because we didn't just watch another person make it but instead, we were able to make it on our own.
